Novas-Core Classes

Welcome!

Below you will find information about each of your student's core classes.

Reading

My name is Tammy Johnston and I will be teaching Reading. This is my 18th year of teaching; I have a wide variety of teaching experiences from elementary through eighth grade.  I have taught many subjects and enjoyed each and every subject area. However, my passion for reading and belief that reading is the foundation of learning and understanding, gave me the desire to focus on teaching (the love of) reading.

This year, in Reading, we will be exploring a variety of communication and reading skills.  We will use the objectives listed below to drive instruction, while incorporating interesting lessons and projects that encourage the use of problem-solving skills and higher-level thinking.  Students will participate in classroom discussions, projects, and presentations. We will utilize Google Classroom as a way to document daily activities and any assignments/assignment instructions and/or links to documents.  We will also utilize a classroom blog as a means of logging and/or sharing our reading as well as live classroom book talks and discussions. Additionally, we will explore various genres and reading formats that will enrich our reading experiences.

I look forward to this school year, getting to know each student, and facilitating interesting lessons that allow for reading growth. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions, concerns, or happy learning stories to share!
